This unique 16,000 sq. ft. Waste Management facility utilizes methane gas, a natural by-product from discarded waste, to create sustainable energy. Located at the Outer Loop Recycling and Disposal Facility in Louisville, Kentucky, the renewable technology is able to convert up to 5,000 cu. ft. of incoming gas per minute into natural gas. The daily gas produced equates to enough gallons of diesel to fuel around 800 of the company’s collection trucks. According to Waste Management, “The Outer Loop RNG (biomethane) facility serves as a model for a planned rollout of additional facilities in the coming years.”
